From the Virtual Box Office to Broadcasting in a Box

Some ideas take a long time to arrive.

Not because they weren’t clear at the beginning, but because the technology, circumstances and other pieces needed time to catch up with them.

Box Office in a Box is one of those ideas.

Character Driven previously developed the Box Office in a Box concept, including a dedicated BoxOfficeInABox.com web presence. The idea was straightforward: give independent event producers access to the kinds of ticketing tools that ordinarily required considerably more infrastructure.

That idea eventually became part of a much larger picture.

The Virtual Box Office

Within the Character Driven ecosystem, the Virtual Box Office is the place where audiences interact with ticketing.

It belongs alongside two other ideas:

The Virtual Box Office for Tickets.

Together they form the Three T’s:

But what happens when someone doesn’t simply want to use those tools?

What if they want their own?

That’s where the box comes back.

Box Office in a Box is the independent version of the ticketing idea.

Rather than simply participating in someone else’s ticketing platform, an organization, producer, venue or community can have a ticketing presence of its own.

The underlying philosophy is independence.

You have the events.

You have the audience.

You should be able to have the tools as well.

Broadcasting in a Box

And then the idea gets bigger.

Broadcasting in a Box takes the same philosophy beyond ticketing.

It is intended for someone who wants to establish an independent broadcasting operation of their own, with the tools required to create programming, work with hosts and producers, broadcast live events, connect with audiences and incorporate appropriate event, ticketing and creator-support functions.

The objective is not to turn everybody into a broadcast engineer.

Quite the opposite.

We’ve spent years learning how complicated broadcasting can become.

The idea behind Broadcasting in a Box is to put the complicated pieces behind the scenes so that people can concentrate on what matters:

Making something worth hearing.
Making something worth watching.
Making something worth participating in.

Virtual means participate. In a Box means make it yours.

That’s the distinction.
